Requirements for Donating Blood
Requirements for Donating Blood
- Medical Interview: Must pass a medical interview.
- Weight: Must weigh more than 115 pounds (52 kg).
- Age: Women: 18 to 60 years old. Men: 18 to 65 years old.
- Identification: Present a DUI or driver’s license. Foreigners should present a residence card or passport.
- Diet: Eat a low-fat breakfast before donating.
- Sleep: Have slept at least 5 hours before donation (no sleepless nights).
- COVID-19Recovery: Can donate 1 month after recovering from COVID-19.
- Vaccinations: Can donate 15 days after receiving COVID, Influenza, Tetanus vaccines, or after the last dose of antibiotics or other medications. Rabies Vaccine: Can donate 1 year after receiving it.
- Controlled Conditions: Hypertensive and diabetic individuals controlled with oral medication can donate.
- Surgery: Wait at least 3 months after surgery before donating.
- Alcohol: Do not consume alcoholic beverages 3 days before donation.
- Smoking: Do not smoke 3 hours before and after donation.
- Hepatitis: Can donate if you had hepatitis before the age of 12.
- Tattoos or Piercings: Can donate one year after getting a tattoo or piercing, subject to medical evaluation.
- Pregnancy and Menstruation: Do not donate if you are pregnant, lactating, or on your menstrual period.
